Class Reminders and Announcements for the Week of January 21st

Due This Week:
Final version of Short Paper 2 with draft and sketch outline, in a folder. Identify what type of paper you wrote on the first page - Process, Exemplification, or Comparions/Contrast.

Oral Presentation on one of your papers. Remember to include visuals.

The assigned reading.

Turnitin.com
Some of you still have not submitted your papers to Turnitin.com. I have extended the deadline until Wednesday. I am holding Short Paper 1 hostage until you can submit! So if you want your papers back tonight, Monday class, get Short Paper 1 turned in today. You should also have Short Paper 2 submitted as soon as possible.

Don't Forget Our Extra Class in Butler Library Tomorrow Night
You must sign in with me when you arrive, so I can keep track of attendance. We are meeting in Butler Library in the computer room reserved under my name. Last time we entered the main entrance and took the stairs down to the right. Do not confuse Butler Library with Butler Hall - different buildings. Butler Library is off Watson St. Check the Lindenwood Campus map for details. This class will meet as usual from 6 - 10 p.m.

Grammar Exercises:
One more change on the Grammar Exercises. "Word Choice" is now "Clarity" on the Writer's Reference website. So cross out "Word Choice" in your course outline and write in "Clarity" and follow the same instructions/due date.

Update on the Grammar Exercises Changes

It looks like they've changed the name for some of the grammar exercise categories on the book's website. FYI "Grammatical Sentences" is now "Sentence Style." So work on the exercises for "Sentence Style." You can skip sentence types - it usually confuses people more than it helps.

You'll need to register on the Writer's Reference website. When you do, include my email TGrissom @lindenwood.edu in your profile, and it should send the results to me automatically as long as you are logged when you work on the grammar exercises. If you are worried something is going wrong, copy and paste your results into a word document and keep them on your computer so you can show you completed the exercises.

Thanks to the students who let me know about the name change for the exercise categories.

Update on Those Pesky Grammar Exercises and Turnitin for Research Paper

FYI They've changed the name of "Word Choice" to "Clarity" on the Grammar Exercise site. Do I know why they keep doing this? I don't. If you need help with this section, the tab of your Writer's Reference labeled "Word Choice" still marks the instructions you need.

All research papers must be submitted to Turnitin.com by 24 hours after you turn it in to me in class. Any late submissions will get 10% deducted for each day it's late. Plus you'll annoy me if I have to change the due date again. You want to make me happy, don't you? I knew you did.

Class Updates - Grammar Exercises, Turnitin.com, Extra Class in Library

Grammar Exercises: Because of the problems with our book's grammar website, I've extended the deadline for the grammar exercises. You have until November 1, 2007 to finish the sections Basic Grammar, Sentence Style, and Punctuation.

The deadline for the remaining grammar sections (Mechanics and Word Choice) will be November 21st (the Wednesday before Thanksgiving).

Turnitin.com: Please submit Short Paper 1 and Short Paper 2 to turnitin.com by Friday, October 19th. Your grade is not final until you've turned your paper in to the website. I will not be putting your grade on Short Paper 2 unless you've turned it in by this Friday.

If you have computer problems, let me know, and we'll make arrangements for an extension. Be sure to create a user profile on Turnitin before submitting your paper. If you experience other technical problems, email Turnitin's tech support.

Extra Class at Butler Library: Remember our extra class for the cluster meets Tuesday, October 23rd in Butler Library's Computer Room on Lindenwood's main campus.

You must have your Student I.D. by next week so you can access the library resources. You can get your I.D. on the third floor of the Spellman Center. I think it's open on Saturdays until 2 p.m., but call (636) 949-4562 to check their hours.

The class will meet from 6-10 p.m., so come prepared to do extensive research for your paper. There is a new coffee shop in the library where you can get refreshments. Consult the campus map for directions. It's near the building we met in for the first Saturday class.

Grammar Exercise Announcements

1. I originally assigned the Basic Grammar and Grammatical Sentences sections for the grammar exercises. The site has changed the name of the section of Grammatical Sentences to Sentence Style. So do the Sentence Style exercises instead, along with Basic grammar. Email if you have any questions.

2. I emailed the site about the technical difficulties many of you are reporting. I got an automatic reply that says he's out of the office until Tuesday, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
